2006 RESS Sculpture Exhibition

Announcing the 2006 RESS Sculpture Exhibition Winner!

Kara-Kush by Andrea Kessler

Presenting "Kara-Kush"

Sculpted by Andrea Kessler

"Kara-Kush" depicts a trotting Akhal-Teke mare measuring approximately 12” long and 10” high. The winning sculptor, Andrea Kessler, is a budding artist who lives in Auburn, Washington.

"Kara-Kush" received consistently high scores across all categories from our jurors. Our jurors were impressed by the sculpture's balance and flow. Juror Elizabeth LaRose commented that “This horse has a polished quality that I would expect to see in a sculpture of this caliber, and at the same time, a very distinctive attention to detail in the musculature that we simply don’t see everyday.” Juror DeeAnn Kjelshus, herself an artist with many sculptures, noted, "This is a stunning piece and a good representation of an Akhal Teke. At first glance it oozes the breed type." All three jurors were very impressed with the detail and character of this piece.

"Kara-Kush" was selected from a field of seven entries as the winning piece and will receive a $1000.00 casting reimbursement from RESS. The field of entries were all excellent and the competition was very tough. All entries will receive a full set of critiques from a panel of three jurors. They can then use some of the information gleaned from the critiques to improve their work, learn new techniques, or start a new project with fresh eyes.
